Sunday afternoon

Getting lazy.. Just a few shots I liked from today. Carindale Grill'd, Swiss ice-cream and Portal companion cube ice.. Best not to ask.

This Week

My favourite photos from the last eight days, straight out of the camera. It's been a crazy week.

I think this guy needs a name. Test subject #1?

I don't know what kind of seed this is but it's cute.

Curious Bailey. I've never seen him do this before, it was really odd. He's standing on his back legs, the laptop is on a stool.

Bailey again.

Photoshop

A little over a year ago I started Karen Russell's Photographer's Workshop. I got through maybe four or five weeks before life got in the way. Since getting my new camera I've managed to finish the course and today I watched Erin Cobb's Clean Color Photoshop editing process which Karen recommends. I've never used Photoshop before and I think I still have a long way to go but I wanted to show off one of my first attempts. I'm sure I'll look back at it and laugh one day but for today I'm pretty happy that I got this far.

Randomness

So NaNoWriMo lasted two days then I spent two days trying to write on my new laptop and failing miserably so that was fun. Then last night I was brainstorming a blog post and came up with a better way to write the story I started so here's some randomness from the last two weeks:

Had teppanyaki with the in-laws two weeks ago.

Spent some time playing with custom white balances and then spent some time forgetting about custom white balances. Oops.

DSC_0708_small

White balance is better but Bailey was getting sick of photos..

Bailey burying his bone in a box. Bad photo but so cute.

An adorable belated birthday present I finally found a spot for a few weeks ago and finally photographed this week.

This is a Karotz. I got it a couple of weeks ago, I'm still trying to make it work properly :p In the meantime it sits around looking cute and completely useless.

This is Nathan's new (out-of-focus) face when he sees my camera. I need pets. I'm running out of cooperative subjects.

Fun with bokeh and the Robina Christmas tree last night.

NaNoWriMo: 3 days, 9 hours and 47 minutes to go

Every November since 2008 I've gone temporarily insane and attempted to write a 50,000 word novel in a month. With a little (fine, a lot of) word-count padding, I succeeded in 2009.

DSC_0085_small

It's truly terrible. This is the only copy that exists. No-one will ever read it. Not even me. And I just realised the white and yellow book on the right of the photo is my copy of No Plot? No Problem! By Chris Baty, the NaNoWriMo founder. Should have included that in the photo.. It was a decent part of why even that one copy of my book exists and regardless of how awful it is, I'm still proud I finished it. Also, yes, I know, my bookshelf is rather eclectic. It gets worse. I should probably dust it occasionally too. Maybe in December.

So who's with me? Sign up here. And friend me here :) Join the crazy!

Emily

My little sister had a birthday this week (so did my Aunty and my sister's boyfriend had his two weeks ago but they didn't pull cute faces for me)

Camera

I currently use a Nikon D40. I've had it for over three years now and it was discontinued not long after I got it. I want to get more serious about photography so I decided to get a Nikon D7000.

DSC_1668

I opened the box on Friday and it was all shiny and pretty and exciting. I put my 35mm lens on it and tried to take a photo. Then I realised a battery and an SD card would probably make that particular endevour a little more successful! So I charged the battery and put in the SD card. And just about fell over trying to comprehend all the settings and buttons! It's like learning to use a DSLR all over again!

DSC_1679

So now I have to go read the manual. Which is the size of a decent novel.

At least I have some company/a willing test subject :)
